Livecraft – Beta 1.7.3

I’ve spun up a Beta 1.7.3 server with a setup mirroring that of our modern server as much as I could. The purpose of this is to scratch the itch of anyone who may be feeling nostalgic for old Minecraft & wants to experience Minecraft as it was prior to the Adventure update. While there’s a lack of features, I think it’s fun to play on older versions to have a simpler experience and also to have less pressure.

Features of this server:

  • No map resets
  • No updates
  • Online 24/7

Plugins we have installed:

  • CreeperHeal – rolls back explosions above Y=64 in a fun way!
  • Deadbolt for locking chests
  • LogBlock for rollback/grief protection
  • mcMMO
  • OtherDrops
  • TrainCarts!
  • Essentials
    • /home
    • /tpa
    • /spawn
    • etc…

Joining – Custom Launcher or ViaFabricPlus

To join the server, you must either have a custom launcher that supports online mode or ViaFabricPlus. ViaFabricPlus is the easiest method to play the game, especially if you already have Fabric installed. To install ViaFabricPlus, follow the guide we provide here. We also provide a guide here to set up Prism launcher. This is because the servers used for online mode have been broken for some number of years; see Mojang’s bug tracker and Reddit for details.

Joining the server

Once you’ve set up your Prism launcher, or are joining however you’re playing Beta 1.7.3, click Multiplayer and enter the IP old.livecraft.net. This will connect you to the Beta 1.7.3 server.

About Beta 1.7.3

Beta 1.7.3 introduced some features that we’ve grown very accustomed to in modern Minecraft, such as pistons and shears! It also changed how TNT works – it’s now lit using redstone rather than by punching it.

If you have not been playing since Beta, there are a few things you’ll need to keep in mind. Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 does not have many features of modern Minecraft, including creative mode, running, flying with elytra, The End, hunger, enchantments, or villages. Food consumed directly raises your health, and food does not stack.

There is one noteworthy glitch worth knowing about! Beds should not be placed on exterior walls unless you have lighting on the other side. If you do this, you might find yourself attacked at night!

Livecraft first launched back in 2011 as a Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 server. Not much was recorded or saved back then, such as screenshots, worlds, or even player lists. We first launched as YAMS (Yet Another Minecraft Server) prior to rebranding as LIVE-craft in 2011-2012.

If you have anything from back then that you’d like archived, such as screenshots, let me know! I would be glad to add it to the Livecraft Archives.
